Kobe Paras joins the UP Fighting Maroons
Kobe Paras officially announced his commitment to the UP Fighting Maroons starting in Season 82 of the UAAP men’s basketball tournament where he will be eligible to play after a one-year residency period. He will be joined by fellow Gilas cadet Ricci Rivero.
Aside from being able to play for the Fighting Maroons and hopefully continuing his father’s legacy as the only PBA player to be named the MVP and Rookie of the Year at the same time, Paras also expressed his excitement to be able to study in the University of the Philippines.
“The University of the Philippines is the most respected educational institution in the country. The attraction of UP is not just its basketball program, which just gets better each year, but the world-class education it is known for,” said Paras.
He has been thinking about the university’s offer for three months already and according to an ABS-CBN News report, was able to decide based on what could greatly contribute to his chosen field and sport.

UP head coach Bo Perasol said that welcoming Paras as well as Bright Akhuetie and Ricci Rivero on the team will be good for the Fighting Maroons. But Perasol understands that these additions are simply steps, noting that other schools are also preparing well during the offseason.
