Miss World Philippines 2017 Laura Lehmann continues to impress as her Beauty with a Purpose video focusing on maternity care has entered the competition’s Top 20.
Each contestant focused on an advocacy they’re passionate about in the mission to create awareness and to make lasting change in the community they want to help. For Laura Lehmann, it’s creating a milk bank for the Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center. Mothers who do not produce enough milk for their babies are more common than one may think, and there is a pressing need for the medical institution to have a milk bank, a milk pasteurizer, an ultra low freezer for milk preservation, and mechanical breast pumps. Laura is currently helping the hospital obtain these resources through a comprehensive five-year plan.
The Miss World contestant also notes that she was born premature with the umbilical cord tied around her neck and was saved because of the right medical care. However, there are some that are not born with that kind of privilege and so she feels strongly about helping them with whatever way she can. Had Laura Lehmann pursued her dream to become a doctor, she says she would have chosen to help in the neonatal and maternity wards.

Laura knows she can’t change the world, but she knows that through her small actions things can get better and better each day. Through these efforts she hopes that there will be opportunities for these babies to be whoever they want to be when they grow up healthy and strong.
The coronation night for the Miss World 2017 will be held in Sanya, China on November 18, 2017.
