Sulo: Project Liwanag’s Benefit Music and Arts Festival for the Aetas of Tarlac
Project Liwanag PH presents Sulo, a benefit music and arts festival that seeks to raise funds for the electrification of an Aeta village in Capas, Tarlac. The event, which features performances by Cheats, Dayaw, acoustic sets, DJ sets, spoken word and poetry, and photography and art exhibits, will be held on July 27 at Frank & Dean and Ocean’s Telephone Co. This is in partnership with talent and events management group Liga Artist Group and mental health awareness platform and website Tala: Mental Wellness.
Proceeds from Sulo will go to Sitio Taliktik, one of the Aeta villages in Tarlac housing almost 200 individuals. This is in line with Project Liwanag’s continuous efforts in partnering with our indigenous brothers and sisters. They aim to create various projects in order to provide basic needs like water, electricity, food, housing, and livelihood.
‘Sulo’ means torch or light in native Aeta tongue. This festival is Project Liwanag’s way of shedding light on the current situation of indigenous peoples and issues surrounding mental health through their partnership with Tala: Mental Wellness. It’s a great avenue for people to not only learn but actually be able to help those who need it the most.
